Time to practise prepositions of place and time


Prepositions, as annoying and frustrating as they can be, are essential for the construction of grammatically correct sentences. In my blogpost, I focused on the prepositions in, on, and at when they are used to describes times and locations.

Let’s practise them now.


TEST 1

TIME FOR THE TIME

Choose from at, in and on in the following sentences:

In Ireland, we eat turkey at in on Christmas Day.

I usually have lunch at in on 1pm.

I have a beer at in on the evening, before dinner.

I was still at university at in on 1994.

My birthday is at in on July.

We usually go to the beach at in on Easter.

I always go abroad at in on Summer.

She likes to dress up at in on Halloween.

My partner and I have a romantic dinner at in on Valentine’s Day.

I usually catch the train at in on midday.

She said that she would be here at in on July 17.

We don’t know if it will arrive at in on the day you need it.

We will go to Santander at in on September or October.

Can you tell me if the train leaves at in on 11.30?

SPOT AND CORRECT THE MISTAKES

AT, ON, IN

At 12.20, on Tuesday, I have a very important appointment.

I don’t want to be late. On days like this, I set my alarm

clock. In December, I had a meeting on Doncaster Street, in London at 9am and I had to wake up at 05.30 am. My flight was at 7 am.

I don’t like flying in the morning. I prefer to fly at night or in the evening. The weather in England is horrible in winter, however, London is very nice in December, especially, if you stay in Chelsea. At Christmas, all the shops on Oxford Street are decorated and there are lots of Christmas trees. I think they turn on the Christmas lights in November. I was there on December 2nd and all the lights were turned on. I had a meeting at the Tate Modern Museum and later I had dinner at Circolo Popolare, in the Fitzrovia neighbourhood.
